The famous L.A. Laker basketball star, Kobe Bryant, died in a plane crash on Sunday, January 26, 2020 at 10:00 A.M., LA time. He and the other passengers were on their way from Los Angeles to Orange County, California, for a youth basketball tournament. His 13 year old daughter, Gianna, was set to play in the tournament. The pilot hit some very thick fog that morning and ended up slamming into a hillside just outside Los Angeles. All 9 people on the plane died. This included Kobe’s daughter, some of her teammates and their parents. The pilot was also killed. So far authorities do not think the crash was caused by mechanical failure.

Kobe Bryant’s career was amazing. He played for 20 years, starting right out of high school in 1996. His position was a shooting guard. He played his whole career with the Los Angeles Lakers. Some people considered him to be the “God of the NBA.”  This was a great tragedy for all families involved.

In the past, the team has won six European Cups, more than any other team. They also won three UEFA Cups, four UEFA Super Cups, one FIFA World Cup, eighteen League titles, seven Fa Cups, a record eightLeague Cups, fifteen FA Community Cups and one Football League Super Cup. So far this year, they have won all of their games. Sounds like they’re having a great season. Go Liverpool!

January 24th, 2020 was a historical day in NFL history. A star quarterback retired - Eli Manning. Eli was a great quarterback in his prime. When he beat the Patriots in the Super Bowl in 2008, he was regarded as the best quarterback in the NFL at the time. He was even considered better than Tom Brady. Some of his greatest accomplishments were that he was a 2 time Super Bowl winner, he won the Pro Bowl 4 times, and he held the Giants franchise record for most passing yards, touchdown passes, and completed passes in a career. In 2012, in a 41-34 win against the Buccaneers, Manning threw for 510 yards, which was 3 yards from the all time record 513 yards, a record set by Phil Simms. Overall, Eli Manning was one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history.

Goodbye Eli Manning!
We’ll All Miss You!

This school offers many programs after school, including extra help, clubs and of course, sports. Bowling is one of those sports and it is very unique in many ways. For one, it only has practice on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. The practices take place at Syosset Lanes and we take the bus from JMS. It also has a smaller acceptance rate than other sports like Track and Field and Swimming, where all are allowed to join, regardless of experience or skill. They only allow 16 bowlers in total; usually half of them are boys while the other half are girls. The meets that occasionally occur happen at other bowling alleys against other schools like Great Neck North. While bowling does not require much strength, precision is vital so that you don’t miss when you release the ball. So if you have good hand-eye coordination, be sure to join!
